Artist Abstract
My project is deeply inspired by two significant factors: the influence of friends and music. My late mother, a passionate music lover, instilled in me a great appreciation for music, something I wish to carry forward in my teaching journey.
The concept of creating friendship bracelets was sparked by the ideas of my classmates. As soon as it was brought up, I knew it was the perfect idea for this project. I handmade 15 unique bracelets, one for each member of my cohort, to show how much their support and inspiration throughout this teaching journey means to me. Each bracelet also symbolizes my commitment to supporting and listening to my future students – while some may be similar, no two are the same.
The second inspiration for this project came from song lyrics that resonated deeply within me, particularly those by Taylor Swift: “So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it, you’ve got no reason to be afraid.” After my mother’s passing, I became more attuned to the meaning behind song lyrics, and this quote encapsulates the exact tone of what I want my future classroom to be.
These handmade friendship bracelets represent the forever presence of friendship, a comforting reminder that even in moments of fear and uncertainty, there is always support to be found. For students facing the challenges of school, these bracelets serve as a symbol of assurance and companionship.
